The North Iowa Farmers’ Market (NIFM) is pleased to announce the hire of their new Market Manager, Sarah Tweeten. Sarah grew up on a farm near Kensett, Iowa where her family continues to farm corn and soybeans. She graduated from Central Springs High School in 2011 and went directly to Iowa State University in the fall of the same year. Sarah obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Communications and a minor in Journalism in May of 2015. Throughout her college career, Sarah held a variety of internships with both Worth and Story County Extension and Outreach and Iowa Corn. She also had the opportunity to attend a two week study abroad trip to Panama. Sarah enjoyed staying active in a variety of on-campus organizations during college such as the Sigma Alpha Professional Agricultural Sorority and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Ambassadors.
Following graduation from college, Sarah volunteered with a non-governmental organization known as AgriCorps. With the support of this organization, Sarah moved to a rural community in Ghana, West Africa where she lived and worked for a year and a half in agricultural development. While living in the community of Kumbungu, Sarah taught a general agriculture course at the high school, started a 4-H club in the school and networked with area farmers to address their needs in agricultural education.
Sarah returned to the United States near the end of December this past year and now works at the Worth County Extension and Outreach office in Northwood. In her free time, Sarah enjoys being outdoors whether it is helping on the family farm, riding bicycle, hiking, kayaking or boating, just to name a few!
Some of Sarah’s roles as the Market Manager include: serving as the NIFM on-site representative during market hours, assisting with the general set up and take down at the market, serving as a liaison between vendors and the board and updating vendor paperwork and files. Due to her background, Sarah will also be managing the NIFM marketing and social media efforts including the development of an effective marketing strategy, monitoring, listening and responding to social media users in a timely manner, creating new and compelling content and writing and distributing press releases.
“I am really looking forward to this opportunity with the North Iowa Farmers’ Market.” She says, “I’m excited to utilize my background in social media and marketing in an effort to promote the North Iowa Farmers’ Market and serve as a resource for our board, vendors and customers.”
We are thrilled to welcome Sarah aboard. Be sure to introduce yourself to her at the next market! Our first market for the summer season will be Friday, May 19th from 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at our NEW downtown location (corner of 1st St. NE and Delaware in Mason City). We hope to see you there!
